Why does AYS sometimes crash when left idle?

When running AYS, a message similar to the following may appear when the workstation is idle.

Error: -2147467259 – Disk or network error.

Here is how to solve that problem.

When you open a database, a persistent network connection is made to the database, either on a file share over the network or on a SQL server. If the network connection is interrupted, you will see a similar error to above.

The most common reason for this is that the network adapter is configured to turn off to save power when the machine is idle. If this happens, the required connection to the AYS database is broken and the application cannot continue.

You can see this feature enabled here:

To disable this feature, you can follow the instructions by Microsoft in this article:

Note

Although the article indicates that it applies to Windows 7 and Windows 2008, the information is still applicable to Windows 10 and 11.

Wireless connections

It is not recommended to use a wireless connection to the network. If you are unable to use a wired (Ethernet) connection, then ensure your signal is strong and will not be interrupted while using AYS
