Why is my AYS license not working after upgrading my Windows operating system?

If you have recently upgraded your Windows operating to a newer version and see a message similar to the one below, what does it mean?

Will my AYS license work?

An AYS version 3.1 or higher license is required for compatibility with Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2.

An AYS version 3.4 or higher license is required for compatibility with all other supported Windows operating systems.
